What does it do?
‘Darren’ is an audio mod for RSF (Rallysimfans.hu) Richard Burns Rally that replaces the co-driver.  It is basically a replacement for ‘Steve’ but will also replace any other co-driver you might be using.

Why should I use it?
It is designed to be fully compatible with the excellent pace notes pack from Luppis. These provide some additional calls that ‘Steve’ does not know.  ‘Darren’ is designed to be more natural and varied (over 1000 recordings).  It supports all the calls used by Janne Laahanen’s excellent CoDriver V2 so can also be used as a Janne replacement if desired.
The aim was to provide a Co Driver alternative that was faster and more natural than ‘Steve’ but not as fast and hardcore as Janne while still providing that extra level of detail and immersion in a clear(ish!) English accent.

If you don’t know about ‘Steve’ or Luppis pacenotes then checkout the RSF Discord:

You can find them both in the pinned messages of the #pacenotes channel.  I have written a brief summary here.
Luppis also has a blog with info and downloads:

Features

  • Over 1000 (and growing) original recordings done specifically for this project
  • Full RSF/WorkerBee pacenote plugin compatibility
  • Full Luppis V2 pacenote compatibility
  • ‘Steve’ replacement calls
  • Janne V2 replacement calls
  • Several corner scales available
  • Most calls have several variants to provide more variety in game
  • A LOT of ‘extra’ calls that are not currently used but may be useful if you wish to create a custom pacenote system.  See the RSF pacenote plugin docs for more info on this.

Notes

  • As I'm from the UK (England), ‘Darren’ is ONLY available in native English.  It is unlikely there will be any translations unless someone else does them.
  • Luppis pacenotes are not required but highly recommended for the full experience.
  • ‘Steve’ or Janne’s mods are not  a prerequisite.  ‘Darren’ is a stand alone install.
  • The volume of 'Darren' is purposely lower than other co driver mods to help mitigate clipping issues. You can read why here.  It may be necessary to increase your in game co driver volume (do this from the main menu otherwise changes won't be saved!).  You can also reduce the fmod engine sounds from the RSF launcher if needed.
  • 'Darren' has been designed to work with RallySimFans RBR. You should be able to get it working with other RBR packages that use the pacenote plugin but I can't really offer much assistance with this as i exclusively use RSF.

Final Comments
My goal was to create the kind of co Driver I wanted to listen to.  There wasn’t one out there that wasn’t ripped from another game, had full compatibility and sounded the way I wanted, so I made one.  I hope some of you will enjoy it. If you require any additional calls or alternative corner scales then if you ask very nicely I might do them for you!

Many thanks to all the amazing guys at RSF for their help and support.  Especially Janne for helping me ensure compatibility with his mod and tobier who has been a testing legend.

This mod or any of my calls may not be modified without my permission.

Anything noteworthy will be posted on this blog but I have also set up a Darren Discord server.  This will not be monitored continuously but i will check in a few times per day so can be used as  general discussion/support area.  You can also keep up to date with development, test experimental releases, new corner scales and have your input on future development of the mod.
